Simulated Client, CPLED

The Canadian Centre for Professional Legal Education (CPLED) is recruiting Simulated Clients to support the Practice Readiness Education Program (PREP), the Bar admission program delivered in Alberta, Manitoba, British Columbia, Nova Scotia, and Saskatchewan. CPLED is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping aspiring lawyers develop practical skills and transition successfully into the legal profession.

As a Simulated Client, you will act out the role of a client seeking legal advice during online interviews with PREP students. This role is essential in helping students practice and develop competence in client interviewing skills. Simulated Clients will have the flexibility to set their daily interview availability during the designated interviewing period and may conduct interviews from any quiet location with a reliable internet connection.

Role Overview:

• Participate in mock interviews via scheduled video calls.• Use provided scenarios, characters, and scripts to simulate client interactions.• Provide verbal feedback that is constructive and non-biased following a guide.• Attend training and calibration sessions that include scenario preparation, technical training, and rubric usage.

Requirements:

• Strong spoken and written communication skills.• Attention to detail and ability to provide specific feedback.• Ability to record observations clearly and consistently.• Strong computer and technology skills; experience with D2L and MentorCity is an asset.• Reliable computer with high-speed internet, camera, and microphone.• Ability to follow instructions and memorize scripts.• Professional, reliable, and receptive to feedback.• Must not be a current, former, or future PREP student.• Legally entitled to work in Canada.

Commitment:

• Attend a 2-hour online onboarding training session.• Attend a one-hour calibration session per unique scenario.• Complete 2 hours of independent self-study per scenario to memorize and practice the script.

• VLF (Summer 2026 ACC): June 26 – July 2, 2026• VLF (Summer 2026 ACC): July 16 – July 21, 2026• Capstone (August 2026): August 17 – 21, 2026• VLF (Standard PREP 2026-27): September 24 - October 1, 2026• VLF (Standard PREP 2026-27): November 25 – December 4, 2026• Capstone (November 2026): November 23 – 27, 2026• VLF (Fall 2026 ACC): October 5, 6, and 7, 2026• VLF (Fall 2026 ACC): October 23, 26, and 27, 2026• Capstone (January 2027): February 1 – 5, 2027

Compensation:

• Training: $20/hour• VLF interviews & verbal feedback: $30/interview• Capstone interviews: $25/interview
