Biome Artist

Remote · USA Full-time New today

Biome Artist Our organization is seeking a Biome Artist to join a dedicated team. This role focuses on defining the living world surrounding game arenas by building the terrain and vegetation systems that give each biome its identity. This position is for a creator who can craft natural environments, making a hillside feel geological and a tree line feel like it grew there, all within the constraints of a competitive, performance-critical game.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create and own terrain, foliage, and vegetation assets across multiple arena biomes through final in-engine integration.
  • Build and maintain biome asset libraries, including ground cover, trees, rocks, and atmospheric scatter designed for performance and reuse at scale.
  • Work with PCG and procedural systems to build efficient, artist-friendly workflows for populating and iterating on environments.
  • Partner with the Art Director and environment team to ensure each biome aligns with its visual brief, lighting conditions, and seasonal variants.
  • Establish material and shader standards for terrain and vegetation that hold across platforms and LOD ranges.
  • Contribute to outsource briefs and quality review for environment assets produced by external partners.

Required Qualifications

Experience: 5+ years of environment art experience on shipped AAA titles, with a focus on terrain and natural world content. Experience building artist-friendly asset systems that scale. Attention to the micro-details, such as the way gravel transitions to grass, how roots interact with soil, and why a forest floor has visual hierarchy. Technical Skills: Strong hands-on experience with Unreal Engine 5, including Landscape tools, Nanite, Lumen, and PCG. Proficiency with vegetation tools such as SpeedTree or equivalent, with an understanding of how plants grow, layer, and respond to light. A solid grasp of PBR material workflows and how to build terrain materials that read across diverse lighting scenarios. Location: United States (Remote) Work Type: Contract Apply To This Job
