Accounting Analyst - (989941.1)

The University of Victoria is one of Victoria's largest employers and is committed to diversity. The Accounting Analyst will maintain financial systems, provide client support, and assist in the production of financial reporting for the university and its related entities.

Responsibilities

  • Perform accounting functions, including reviewing and posting journal entries, and reviewing transactions to detect and correct errors
  • Support and deliver accounting and finance related training to users across the university as well as providing on-going support
  • Administrate finance-related system access and maintain financial systems
  • Assist senior team members with financial statement preparation and other compliance reporting and filings
  • Participation in special projects

Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or business
  • 1-2 years of relevant professional experience in accounting
  • Solid working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, with particular emphasis on Public Sector Accounting Standards (PSAS)
  • Experience gained in a large, complex, and diverse accounting environment
  • Excellent analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to communicate to an audience with different finance background
  • Proven track record achieving goals while working under pressure to meet established and sometimes changing deadlines
  • Demonstrated effectiveness to take personal responsibility for the quality and timeliness of work and achieve results with little oversight
  • A flexible and adaptable approach to work requirements
  • Ability to build and maintain productive working relationships including the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment
  • Promote collaboration, partnership and cross-organizational activities that share knowledge and pool resources
  • Commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive and respectful working and learning environment
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Advanced computer proficiency
  • Ability to facilitate corporate training
  • Experience with University systems such as Banner, FAST Finance and FAST Journal Vouchers
  • Experience developing and delivering training programs

  • This position is eligible for a hybrid flex arrangement
  • Starting salary is determined in accordance with the PEA Collective Agreement.
  • Progression beyond the recruitment range is available through annual performance increases, in accordance with the PEA Collective Agreement.
