Accounting Analyst
SCS Engineers is a 100% employee-owned firm focused on finding smart climate solutions and improving the natural environment. They are seeking a Staff Accountant to support their accounting and financial operations team by performing various accounting tasks, ensuring the accuracy of financial records, and assisting with month-end and year-end close activities.
Responsibilities
- Perform complex accounting and bookkeeping functions to support the organization's financial operations
- Maintain accurate financial records while ensuring compliance with company policies and accounting standards
- Prepare recurring monthly journal entries
- Participate in semi-monthly and monthly closing processes, including bad debt accruals, depreciation entries, and other accruals and adjustments
- Reconcile general ledger accounts and prepare correcting journal entries as needed
- Reconcile fixed asset depreciation schedules to the general ledger
- Assist with month-end and year-end close activities
- Maintain fixed asset records and depreciation schedules within BNA software
- Process fixed asset additions, transfers, adjustments, and disposals
- Prepare and maintain fixed asset tax reporting documentation
- Prepare financial statements, management reports, and supporting schedules
- Analyze financial data and investigate account variances and discrepancies
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities
- Assist with accounts payable and accounts receivable functions as needed
- Prepare schedules and supporting documentation for external CPA audits
- Assist with miscellaneous financial and compliance audits
- Update and distribute aged accounts receivable reports on a weekly basis
- Prepare and distribute average days receivable reports on a monthly basis
- Maintain accounting records, files, and report distribution processes
- Review office data for accuracy prior to system entry
- Support preparation of operational scorecards and management reporting
- Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned
Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field required
- Minimum of 1 year of accounting experience required, preferably in a professional services or project-based environment
- Strong understanding of general ledger accounting, account reconciliations, and financial reporting
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and accounting software required
- Accurate ten-key data entry skills
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities
- Experience with fixed asset accounting and depreciation schedules preferred
- Deltek Vantagepoint experience preferred
