Welcome to arenaflex, a forward-thinking organization at the forefront of digital transformation and data-driven innovation. In an era where information is the new currency, arenaflex has established itself as a leader in building robust, scalable, and intelligent data ecosystems that power critical business decisions across multiple industries. Our team operates within a dynamic, collaborative environment that values curiosity, technical excellence, and the relentless pursuit of better solutions to complex challenges.

At arenaflex, we believe that data is more than just numbers and records—it is the foundation upon which transformative business strategies are built. We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Data Engineering Specialist to join our remote team and play a pivotal role in designing, developing, and optimizing the data infrastructure that drives our organization forward. This is not a simple data entry position; it is an opportunity to architect the systems that transform raw information into actionable intelligence.

Position Overview

As a Senior Data Engineering Specialist at arenaflex, you will operate at the intersection of engineering, analytics, and business strategy. This full-time, remote position offers a competitive hourly rate of $24 and requires a commitment of eight hours per day. You will work with cutting-edge cloud technologies, including AWS and advanced SQL frameworks, to construct high-performance data pipelines that serve diverse stakeholders across the organization.

Reporting to senior leadership, you will be entrusted with significant autonomy and responsibility. Your work will directly impact operational efficiency, customer acquisition strategies, and overall business performance. We are looking for a professional who thrives on complexity, embraces challenges, and possesses the technical acumen to translate abstract business requirements into elegant, scalable technical solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Data Architecture and Pipeline Development

  • Design and construct complex data systems that satisfy both functional business requirements and non-functional criteria such as performance, scalability, security, and reliability.
  • Build robust infrastructure for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) of data from a wide variety of sources using AWS technologies and SQL-based solutions.
  • Develop analytical tools that leverage the data pipeline to provide actionable insights into key business performance metrics, with particular focus on operational efficiency and customer acquisition patterns.
  • Re-engineer existing systems to improve flexibility, optimize data delivery mechanisms, and automate manual processes that currently consume valuable organizational resources.

Process Improvement and Optimization

  • Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements that enhance data flow efficiency and reduce operational friction across departments.
  • Continuously analyze system performance and recommend architectural adjustments that align with evolving business needs and technological advancements.
  • Establish and refine approaches for data governance, quality assurance, and pipeline monitoring to ensure consistent reliability.

Cross-Functional Collaboration and Leadership

  • Serve as a technical subject matter expert for cross-functional task groups, providing guidance and mentorship on data-related initiatives.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across product, design, data science, and executive teams to support their data infrastructure requirements and resolve complex technical issues.
  • Partner with external vendors to provide them with effective solutions, insights, and technical guidance that strengthen business relationships.
  • Communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders in a clear, accessible manner that facilitates informed decision-making.

Strategic Problem-Solving

  • Take ownership of complex issues that require thorough evaluation of circumstances and data from multiple variables and perspectives.
  • Apply independent judgment within broadly defined policies and practices to determine the most effective course of action for achieving project objectives.
  • Mentor junior team members and contribute to the development of best practices and engineering standards within the organization.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by leadership to support organizational priorities and strategic initiatives.

Essential Qualifications

  • Educational Background: A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution.
  • Technical Expertise: Demonstrated knowledge and practical experience with engineering science and technology principles, including the ability to apply techniques, methods, procedures, and equipment to the design and creation of various products and services.
  • AWS Proficiency: Hands-on experience with Amazon Web Services and cloud-based data engineering tools, including services such as S3, Lambda, Glue, Redshift, and related technologies.
  • SQL Mastery: Advanced proficiency in SQL and experience designing, implementing, and maintaining complex database structures and queries.

Preferred Qualifications and Differentiators

  • Prior experience in senior or lead data engineering roles within fast-paced, technology-driven organizations.
  • Familiarity with modern data warehousing concepts, dimensional modeling, and data lake architectures.
  • Experience with programming languages such as Python, Scala, or Java for data manipulation and pipeline development.
  • Knowledge of data visualization tools and platforms that support business intelligence initiatives.
  • Industry experience in aviation, transportation, logistics, or related sectors is a plus but not required.

Core Skills and Competencies

Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills

  • Logical Reasoning: Ability to use logic and structured thinking to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
  • Pattern Recognition: Capacity to identify or detect a known pattern—whether a figure, object, word, or sound—that is hidden within other distracting material.
  • Complex Problem Identification: Skilled in identifying complex issues and reviewing related data to develop, evaluate options, and implement effective solutions.
  • Anomaly Detection: Ability to recognize when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong, even before the problem fully manifests.

Information Processing and Integration

  • Information Synthesis: Ability to combine pieces of information to form general rules or conclusions, including finding relationships among seemingly unrelated events.
  • Implication Analysis: Capacity to understand the implications of new information for both current and future problem-solving and decision-making.
  • Multitasking and Source Integration: Ability to shift back and forth between two or more activities or sources of information (such as speech, sounds, touch, or other sources) without losing focus or accuracy.
  • Sequential Organization: Ability to arrange things or actions in a specific order or pattern according to a particular rule or set of rules, including patterns of numbers, letters, words, pictures, or mathematical operations.

Technical Design Competencies

  • Design Methodologies: Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in producing precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
  • Systems Thinking: Ability to understand how individual components interact within larger systems and anticipate downstream effects of design decisions.

Career Growth and Learning Opportunities

At arenaflex, we are deeply committed to the professional development of every team member. As a Senior Data Engineering Specialist, you will have access to:

  • Continuous Learning Resources: Access to industry conferences, online courses, certification programs, and internal knowledge-sharing sessions.

  • Career Advancement Pathways: Clear progression opportunities into principal engineer, technical lead, or management roles based on your interests and demonstrated capabilities.
  • Cross-Functional Exposure: Opportunities to work alongside professionals in product management, design, data science, and executive leadership, broadening your business acumen.
  • Innovation Time: Dedicated time to explore emerging technologies, experiment with new tools, and contribute to proof-of-concept initiatives that may shape the future of our data platform.
