Key Responsibilities – What You’ll Do Every Day
- Freight Handling: Operate motorized and manual equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks to move freight safely across the dock area and into/out of trailers.
- Documentation Verification: Match freight descriptions (type, weight, hazardous material status) with accompanying paperwork using both electronic and manual systems.
- Secure Loading: Apply pallets, straps, rope, and other securing tools to ensure cargo remains stable during transport.
- Damage Control: Identify, report, and assist in the repair or recoup of damaged freight when necessary.
- Report Completion: Accurately fill out required documentation and generate reports for each shift, maintaining compliance with internal standards.
- Customer Assistance: Provide courteous support to customers regarding freight status, documentation, and any inquiries they may have.
- Hostling Duties (When Needed): Perform yard mule or hostler responsibilities, such as moving trailers within the yard, under supervision.
