Key Responsibilities – What You’ll Do Every Day

  • Freight Handling: Operate motorized and manual equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks to move freight safely across the dock area and into/out of trailers.
  • Documentation Verification: Match freight descriptions (type, weight, hazardous material status) with accompanying paperwork using both electronic and manual systems.
  • Secure Loading: Apply pallets, straps, rope, and other securing tools to ensure cargo remains stable during transport.
  • Damage Control: Identify, report, and assist in the repair or recoup of damaged freight when necessary.
  • Report Completion: Accurately fill out required documentation and generate reports for each shift, maintaining compliance with internal standards.
  • Customer Assistance: Provide courteous support to customers regarding freight status, documentation, and any inquiries they may have.
  • Hostling Duties (When Needed): Perform yard mule or hostler responsibilities, such as moving trailers within the yard, under supervision.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Follow all applicable laws, safety regulations, and arenaflex policies to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Team Collaboration: Work independently when required, but also seamlessly integrate with the dock crew to meet tight deadlines.
  • Continuous Improvement: Suggest process enhancements and participate in safety meetings to help evolve our operations.

Essential Qualifications – What We’re Looking For

  • High school diploma or equivalent (preferred but not mandatory).
  • Minimum age of 18 years.
  • Basic math skills – ability to count, weigh, and perform simple calculations with or without a calculator.
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Physical capability to lift and carry hand freight of varying weights, including dock plates up to 100 lb and trailer doors requiring ~75 lb of force.
  • Flexibility to bend, twist, squat, and push/pull freight throughout each shift.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.

Preferred Experience – Nice to Have

  • Prior exposure to warehousing, freight handling, or forklift operation.
  • Experience with hostling or yard mule duties.
  • Familiarity with dock environments and basic safety protocols.
