About arenaflex

arenaflex is a global leader in entertainment streaming, delivering premium video content to more than 200 million paid subscribers across 190+ countries. With a relentless focus on innovation, arenaflex is reshaping how stories are created, distributed, and experienced on a massive scale. The company’s data‑driven culture fuels every decision, from product development to content recommendation, and it relies on world‑class data engineers to turn raw information into actionable insight.

Why This Role Matters

At arenaflex, data is the lifeblood of the business. The Data Engineer (L5) position is a cornerstone of the Data Engineering team, responsible for building robust pipelines that ingest, process, and surface billions of events daily. This role directly supports the tagging and metadata workflows that power content discovery, recommendation algorithms, and the overall user experience. If you thrive on solving complex, distributed‑system challenges and love turning chaotic data into clean, reliable streams, this is the opportunity for you.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable data pipelines that handle petabyte‑scale workloads using technologies such as Apache Flink, Apache Spark, and Kafka.
  • Collaborate with product, analytics, and machine‑learning teams to define data requirements and translate them into robust engineering solutions.
  • Implement and optimize data ingestion frameworks that support real‑time tagging, metadata enrichment, and content classification across multiple languages and genres.
  • Build and maintain data services that expose clean, well‑documented APIs for downstream consumers, including recommendation engines, reporting dashboards, and AI models.
  • Develop automated testing, monitoring, and alerting mechanisms to ensure data quality, reliability, and compliance with SLAs.
  • Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and architecture planning sessions to uphold high engineering standards.
  • Mentor junior engineers, share best practices, and contribute to a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
  • Stay current with emerging data technologies and propose innovative solutions that keep arenaflex at the forefront of the streaming industry.

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related technical field.
  • 5+ years of professional experience building large‑scale data pipelines in a production environment.
  • Proficiency in at least one major programming language (e.g., Java, Scala, Python) and strong SQL skills.
  • Hands‑on experience with distributed data processing frameworks such as Apache Flink, Spark, or Beam.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with streaming platforms (e.g., Kafka, Kinesis) and design fault‑tolerant data flows.
  • Solid understanding of data modeling, schema design, and data warehousing concepts.
  • Excellent problem‑solving abilities, attention to detail, and a passion for data quality.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross‑functional teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or advanced coursework in data engineering, distributed systems, or related areas.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and infrastructure‑as‑code tools (Terraform, CloudFormation).
  • Familiarity with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and CI/CD pipelines for data workloads.
  • Background in building or supporting AI/ML pipelines, especially for content recommendation or natural‑language processing.
  • Knowledge of data governance, security, and compliance frameworks (e.g., GDPR, CCPA).
  • Track record of contributing to open‑source projects or publishing technical articles.

Core Skills & Competencies

  • Technical depth: Ability to design end‑to‑end data solutions that are performant, maintainable, and extensible.
  • Analytical mindset: Strong data intuition, capable of spotting anomalies and optimizing pipelines for efficiency.
  • Collaboration: Comfortable partnering with product managers, data scientists, and engineers to translate business goals into technical deliverables.
  • Documentation: Commitment to clear, comprehensive documentation that enables knowledge sharing across the organization.
  • Adaptability: Thrive in a fast‑moving environment where priorities shift and new challenges emerge daily.
  • Leadership: Ability to mentor peers, influence technical direction, and champion best practices.
