Role Summary – Technical Support Engineer (Remote, Part‑Time)

As a Technical Support Engineer on the API Platform & Developer Experience team, you will be the bridge between arenaflex’s internal product teams and the GraphQL platform. You will provide proactive support, create high‑quality documentation, and develop tooling that reduces support overhead while enhancing developer productivity. This hybrid role blends customer enablement with technical writing and engineering advocacy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Customer Enablement: Partner with internal product teams to onboard them onto the unified GraphQL platform, offering guidance, best‑practice recommendations, and hands‑on assistance.
  • Technical Support: Provide tier‑2 support for GraphQL‑related issues during business hours, troubleshooting complex problems and ensuring timely resolution.
  • Documentation & Knowledge Base: Author clear, concise, and comprehensive documentation, tutorials, and internal knowledge‑base articles. Your mantra: “If it isn’t documented, it isn’t done.”
  • Tooling Development: Contribute to internal developer tools that streamline debugging, monitoring, and performance analysis of GraphQL services.
  • Collaboration & Advocacy: Act as an advocate for internal developers, balancing platform capabilities with product team needs, and driving continuous improvement of the API ecosystem.
  • Cross‑Functional Projects: Participate in initiatives that span multiple teams, helping to shape the roadmap for the GraphQL platform and related services.

What Success Looks Like

  • Demonstrated expertise in GraphQL, with a strong preference for experience using Apollo Server or Apollo Federation.
  • 3+ years of experience in a technical support role for large‑scale enterprise software, or 3+ years developing or supporting API‑centric products.
  • Exceptional technical writing skills, with a track record of producing developer‑focused documentation that reduces support tickets.
  • Strong analytical and investigative abilities, capable of diagnosing root causes in complex distributed systems.
  • Customer‑centric mindset, always prioritizing the developer experience and striving to make integrations frictionless.
  • Bonus: Hands‑on experience with Java and the JVM ecosystem, as well as familiarity with micro‑service architectures.

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field (or equivalent practical experience).
  • Proficiency with GraphQL concepts, schema design, query execution, and performance optimization.
  • Solid background in troubleshooting production‑grade APIs, including logging, tracing, and monitoring tools.
  • Excellent written communication skills; ability to translate technical concepts into clear, actionable documentation.
  • Experience working in a remote or distributed team environment, demonstrating self‑motivation and effective time management.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Apollo Server, Apollo Federation, or similar GraphQL tooling.
  • Programming experience in Java, Kotlin, or other JVM languages.
  • Familiarity with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Knowledge of observability platforms (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, Jaeger) for API performance monitoring.
  • Previous work in a SaaS or streaming media environment.

Core Skills & Competencies

  • Technical Acumen: Deep understanding of API design, GraphQL, and modern web technologies.
  • Problem‑Solving: Ability to dissect complex issues, propose actionable solutions, and follow through to resolution.
  • Communication: Strong verbal and written communication, capable of influencing both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
  • Collaboration: Comfortable working with cross‑functional teams, including product managers, engineers, and designers.
  • Adaptability: Thrive in a fast‑moving environment where priorities shift and new challenges emerge regularly.
